Narrative Elements were originally introduced as modular content units that could exist independently while also participating inside larger narrative structures such as Fragments and Chapters. Over time, Elements accumulated overlapping responsibilities involving content reuse, metadata inheritance, relationship rendering, contextual attribution, visual presentation, and compositional assembly. As a result, multiple Element-related systems now depend on assumptions that have never been formally defined.
This task consolidates all Element architecture work into a single initiative focused on defining the long-term role of Elements within the Knowledge Platform. The objective is to determine whether Elements function primarily as atomic narrative units, semantic compositions, interpretive structures, reusable content modules, or some combination thereof, and then standardize relationships, rendering, metadata, embedding behavior, and editorial workflows around that definition
